DESCRIPTION

The National Energy Control Center (CENACE for its Spanish acronym), is responsible for carrying out the Long Term Electric Auctions, in order to assign electric coverage contracts for the sale of power, electricity and Renewable Energy Certificates.

The main objectives of the Second Long Term Power Auction are:

- To allow Basic Services Supplier the execution of electric coverage contracts in competitive and reasonable conditions to satisfy in the long term the needs for power, electricity and Renewable Energy Certificates (CEL).
- To allow any party interested in generating and selling these products, to compete in transparent conditions that may result in the assignment of electric coverage contracts and in a stable source of payment that contributes to the financing of efficient investments, required to develop or improve power plants through which these products might be generated.

According to the results of the Second Long Term Auction (SLP-1/2016), 23 companies from eleven countries, among them Mexico, will invest USD 4 billion, to obtain an installed capacity of clean energy of 2,891 MW.

Megawatt/CEL average price: USD$33.4
