The Special Economic Zone of Lazaro Cardenas-La Union is a geographically delimited area, known as Large Polygon (“Polígono Amplio”), where sections for industrial use can be developed with special incentives and fiscal benefits to foster the economic growth, employment and social inclusion in an area that includes the municipalities of Zihuatanejo de Azuela and La Unión de Isidoro Montes de Oca, in the state of Guerrero, as well as the municipality of Lázaro Cárdenas, in the state of Michoacán.

The Large Polygon is located in the municipalities of Lázaro Cárdenas, in the state of Michoacán, and La Union de Isidoro Montes de Oca, in the state of Guerrero, and has a total area of 8,483 ha. Within this polygon, sections of privately owned and public domain assets may be developed.

In the case of privately owned assets, interested parties may request a permit to the Development of Special Economic Zones Federal Authority to receive the benefits of the Special Economic Zones regime, in compliance with the Special Economic Zones Federal Law, its Regulation and the Guidelines for the Granting of Permits, Authorizations and Special Assignments.

In the case of assets of public domain, interested parties must obtain a concession through an International Public Tender to develop a 533.28 ha property, known as "Isla de la Palma", which will be tendered by mid 2018.

The Lazaro Cárdenas-La Unión Special Economic Zone has both, national and international logistical advantages, due to its location near the port of Lázaro Cárdenas, one of the most important ports in the Country, representing a gateway to the markets of Asia, Oceania, South America and the west coast of the USA. In addition, the property has railroad, highway and airport connections to the main industrial and consumer clusters in the Country.
