DESCRIPTION

The Program for the Development of the Tehuantepec Isthmus (PDIT for its Spanish acronym) seeks to address the economic and social gap in the region to restore the wellbeing of the population located in the Tehuantepec Isthmus, composed of 79 municipalities: 46 in the State of Oaxaca and 33 in the State of Veracruz.

Five strategic objectives for the region of the Isthmus have been defined:
1. Strengthen social and productive infrastructure.
2. Promote a new model for economic growth that benefits the population.
3. Ensure the coordination of emergency for population in extreme poverty.
4. Increase biodiversity, and improve the quality of water, soil and air through a sustainable approach.
5. Protect, reinforce and disseminate the linguistic and cultural diversity, memory and cultural heritage of indigenous and Afro-Mexican peoples, guaranteeing their participation and cultural rights.

The Tehuantepec Isthmus Interoceanic Corridor (CIIT for its Spanish acronym) will be the backbone of the PDIT, which will connect the region to compete worldwide in goods mobilization. Coordinated by the Interoceanic Corridor, the Isthmus of Tehuantepec railway, the ports of Coatzacoalcos in Veracruz and Salina Cruz in Oaxaca will be modernized, the highway and rural road infrastructure will be strengthened, as well as the port network and a gas pipeline will be built to supply companies and domestic consumers. Likewise, industrial areas will be created along the Isthmus to attract investment that will trigger the economic and social development of the region, based on the productive vocations with the greatest potential.
