The Mexico New International Airport (NAIM) is being built over an area of aprox. 4,400 ha. in the municipalities of Atenco, Ecatepec and Texcoco, in the State of Mexico, in the upper right crossing of the Federal Road 57 and the Peñon-Texcoco road. The surface is extremely flat with slight isolated elevations.
The NAIM is approximately six times the size of the actual Mexico International Airport, and will substitute the actual airport, due to the fact that its geographical location and approach routes make impossible the co-existence of both facilities.
Objectives of the NAIM
To become an icon of the aviation industry in Mexico and worldwide. In this respect, the NAIM:
• Will be an efficient hub with fast transfers of arrivals and departures, that will provide a unique quality experience to the travelers and to the airport’s visitors.
• Will have high quality service standards and an innovative functional infrastructure.
• Will be a sustainable airport with social and financial profitability.
The NAIM will be developed in four stages to optimize the processes, while guaranteeing the capacity to attend the demand of a five year growth period for each stage. The development of the NAIM considers the expected demand, based on air traffic projections for the years 2025, 2030, 2035, 2040 and 2065.
The NAIM will start operations with a maximum annual installed capacity of approximately 68 million passengers. Its design allows future expansions to attend the demand of passengers and cargo, according to the country’s economic growth for the next 50 years.
At its full development, the NAIM will have a capacity of four times the actual airport, equivalent to 125 million passengers per year. This will be possible through the construction of two terminal buildings and two satellite terminals with 190 fixed positions and 85 remote positions, respectively, and the construction of six runways that will allow the takeoff and landing of one million aircrafts per year.
